The concept for The Shepherd’s Project was developed in 2001 by Dr. Alex Phillips, a medical doctor in India who has given up his very lucrative practice to carry the mantle of his father in holistically helping the needy people of India.
Located in Purnia, Bihar, The Shepherd’s Project is being built on a 40-acre compound. Already in existence is the Children’s Home, where today 250 orphaned little ones receive love and compassionate care by Christian caregivers. They are recipients of Christ’s love in both tangible and intangible ways, and the children are not only surviving, they are thriving!
In addition to the children’s home, the building of a women's Theological Training Center has been started. This building is about half complete. Funding of $75,000 is needed in order to finish this part of The Shepherd's Project.
In addition to these two buildings, the compound will have an elementary school, a chapel/conference building, an administrative/library building, a kitchen/dining/recreation hall building, a building with 2 bedroom apartments, a building with 3 bedroom apartments, a guest complex and a women’s dormitory.
The Administrative building is next to be built. This building is vital and the need to build it is critical. We need $220,000 to build and furnish it.
We are also hoping to be able to start building the kitchen/dining/recreation facility during early 2007. This building is important for the compound as the orphanage continues to grow in numbers of children and we open the Training Center for women. The cost for this building is $205,000.
TO CONSTRUCT AND FURNISH THE REMAINING SCHOOL, APARTMENTS, GUEST COMPLEX & WOMEN'S DORMITORY WILL COST APPROXIMATELY: $800,000
