Located on 15 acres of land in Purnia, the Christian Medical Centre clinic which was built about two years ago, is reaching out to the poor in this area of Bihar both through the clinic, as well as through its ongoing community-based outreaches that touch at least 50 villages. During the past several months more than 5,000 patients a month have received treatment.
Until this 3000 square foot facility was built, the closest medical clinic available to these people was located an 18-hour train ride away. Thus, many people died from very treatable diseases and emergencies because they could not afford the train ride to South India, or their conditions were too critical to make the 18-hour ride.
In 2008 Dr. Alex Phillips, a medical doctor who spearheads this project for the poor in Bihar, plans to build a 100 bed hospital on adjoining land. Dr. Phillips spent more than three years researching the feasibility of this project and has determined that the need not only is great, but that with careful operations, the project can generate the revenues necessary to operate. The hospital will be managed with three clear operational goals:
- Development of efficient clinical and administrative processes, which will sustain revenues while providing the highest quality of medical care at an affordable cost to the patients.
- Make patient comfort and satisfaction the central value in operations through personnel sensitization, quality assurance systems and patient feedback.
- Achieve self-sustaining operations through effective cost management and utilization management so that the internal accruals that are generated can be efficiently put to use for expansion programs, community outreach and patient subsidies and charity.
The medical specialties at the hospital will include internal medicine, general surgery, gynecology/obstetrics, and pediatrics and neonatology.
Eventually the hospital will include a nursing school where nurses can be trained by Christian doctors and teachers to become Christ’s hands extended to the needy throughout Bihar.
To build, equip, and provide 12 months of operational funding for the hospital:
$1.5 million.
If you can partner with Global Assist Network and New India Medical Mission in the building of this vitally needed hospital, please DONATE NOW!
We also need partners who will help us assist needy people in Bihar who need medical treatment at the Medical Clinic. They have been treating about 5,000 each month since the clinic opened.
To treat 1 person costs $5 US.
