| Beginning in 1995 with 60 children, Darrell and Sandy Blatchley used the top of a local McDonald's in Davao City, Philippines, to hold Sunday school. In 2001 they began the Family Circus Church. Their priority is to help street children and children from the slums not only learn about Jesus, but also receive care for their physical and emotional needs as well.
Every week the children receive free first aid treatment. They also have weekly dental clinics that care for the children's needs. Every child who attends the weekly outreach receives a hot bread roll and juice. For many of these children, that is the only food they will receive.
During the week, the children who are malnourished receive additional food assistance and vitamins. During 2006 Family Circus provided more than 7 tons of rice and more than 100,000 hot bread rolls.
Weekly attendance during 2006 has been more than 3,500 children. About 60 percent of those attending are under the age of 16.
Family Circus just received a 5,000 seat capacity circus tent. This will be used as quickly as the property they have purchased in the midst of one of the slums is prepared. Included in the preparations is the building of a "castle-style" wall. There will also be restroom facilities on the property and water.
They currently need funds to assist in purchasing additional property to build a Feeding Center. This Center will also include a dental lab and classrooms for vocational training. Their desire is to help the children they minister to from the slums and the streets become trained in a vocation so as they get older they will be able to care for their own needs and become worthwhile, productive citizens in their communities.
The Blatchley's also have a dream of purchasing two FIRE TRUCKS! The slum communities are plagued with fires. They would use the trucks to not only help the community fight fires, but they would also be used to carry water to others in the community.
Global Assist Network is also putting together a container for Family Circus that will include food, clothing, vitamins, medical and dental supplies, school supplies, sports equipment and a Bobcat 850 with attachments. The Bobcat will be used to prepare the property for the tent. Thus it is very important that we fill this container quickly. If you can help by providing cash donations for the Bobcat (which will cost about $25,000 with attachments), please DONATE NOW and designate your gift for the Family Circus container project.
